Why men who love men and porn don’t like the porn industry

Male porn stars don’t want to be part of the industry, according to a new study published in the Journal of Sex Research.

The study, conducted by researchers from the University of Oxford and the University College London, tracked more than 600 male porn performers across the UK.

The participants were asked to rank how much they like the men they watch, and then to rate their satisfaction with each individual male performer on a scale of 1 to 10.

The participants rated the men based on their appearance, sexual attractiveness, personality, and physical appearance.

“We found that there was little difference between male performers and non-performers in their ratings of men’s physical attractiveness and personality,” said lead author, Dr Ben Davis.

“Although this study suggests that there is an overlap between men’s and women’s ratings of male performers, we would like to emphasise that these ratings are not reflective of the actual sexual performance of the male performers.”

The participants rated male performers in the same way as non-participants, and this suggests that the ratings of the non-porn participants may be a proxy for male performers’ sexual arousal and satisfaction.

“However, the ratings and ratings of males by women were not significantly different, and we suspect that this reflects the perceived sexual satisfaction of female performers.”

Dr Davis said that although it’s impossible to know whether the ratings are accurate representations of the physical appearance and personality of male porn stars, it’s possible that these data provide a basis for an objective evaluation of how well male porn is performing.

“In a sense, our results are a bit like a test of our theory about what men think about male porn, which is that, in fact, they have no concept of what men are actually thinking about sex,” he said.

“If that’s true, then our findings could help us to make better decisions about which male-led porn should be produced and how much money to spend on it.”

There are some very valid reasons why male performers might not like the idea of being in a male-dominated industry.

“Dr Ben Davis said the results of the study could also help to inform future studies, in which male porn artists are asked to evaluate how well their male peers are doing.”

It’s important to note that this research only looks at the performers themselves, and not the viewers of their work,” he added.”

So, while it may be that performers who enjoy male nudity are less sexually attracted to the men that they watch in porn, this is a result of the performers’ own preferences and attitudes rather than the performers actions.

“Ultimately, we hope this research will help to further illuminate the extent to which men who watch male porn are in fact enjoying themselves and that this might lead to new approaches to the production and distribution of male pornography.”
